A Magical Adventure Couple Photography Session in the Gower, South Wales
A few months ago, I put out a model call with three goals in mind: 1) to try new creative ideas, 2) to gather fresh content for my portfolio and YouTube, and 3) to practice what I preach as part of my model call training for The Kefi Club (which you would be coo-coo bananas not to check out—it’s free!). Little did I know, this call would lead me to Poppy and Mat, an incredible couple whose love story unfolded beautifully through my lens.
As a Cardiff South Wales wedding, couple, and engagement photographer, I’m always on the lookout for couples whose stories resonate with me, and Poppy and Mat were no exception. When they applied, their story immediately drew me in. They’ve weathered so many highs and lows together, growing stronger through each chapter of their journey. I just knew I had to capture their love in a way that did justice to their connection.
Bringing My Vision to Life
My vision for this shoot was simple yet powerful: beach romance, cliffs, joy, togetherness, intimacy, adventure, and a touch of cinematic magic. When Poppy and Mat agreed to drive 4.5 hours to work with me (yes, 4.5 hours!) in the Gower, I was beyond humbled by their trust and commitment. We began our session on the stunning cliff tops of one of my favourite locations in the entire world, a place that never fails to inspire me as a family, engagement, and wedding photographer.
From the very start, Poppy and Mat were all in. They fully embraced the mood I had envisioned and dove into every suggestion with enthusiasm and trust. The results? Pure magic. Their love and connection radiated in every shot, and the experience felt like I was photographing old friends rather than a couple I had only just met.

After capturing some epic shots on the cliffs, we made our way down to the beach, and that’s when the real adventure began. We spent the trip down exchanging stories and laughter, and it became clear that Poppy and Mat’s bond was something special. As a South Wales photographer specialising in engagement and couple photography, my goal is always to capture love stories in an authentic and honest way, and Poppy and Mat made that easy. They poured their hearts into the shoot—and then into the ocean!
Yes, we celebrated the end of our session with a spontaneous swim in the sea! That’s just the kind of laid-back, joyful energy these two brought to the table. Working with them was a dream, and sometimes as a photographer, you need a shoot like this—where the goal isn’t just to update your portfolio, but to connect with people who remind you why you fell in love with photography in the first place.

What started as a creative project for my new wedding and family photography website AND an exercise in model calls for my photography education business, The Kefi Club, turned into something much more. Poppy and Mat became more than just subjects; they became friends. Their willingness to trust my vision, their openness to be vulnerable, and their undeniable chemistry made this shoot one of the most memorable I’ve ever done.
