The Magic of Direct Light in Wedding Photography: A Cardiff Photographer's Guide
Right, I want to start this out by saying that these photographs are some of my absolute favourites I have taken at a wedding and I am so glad I took the opportunity the hottest day of the year had given me with this absolutely amazing direct light.
I have saved my favourite photograph at the very bottom of the blog entry because of course we have to save the best ‘til last!
A little backstory.
This is Laura. And Laura is one of my all time favourite humans to grace this universe and y’all should count yourselves lucky to walk the same Earth as her. Laura and I met on the first day of high school in 2005, age 11, backpacks bigger than ourselves and have stayed by each other’s sides from that point. I recently went round her childhood home to visit (and do a brand shoot for her gorgeous non-profit honey and bee keeping!) and my height is marked in black pen on the wall from 15+ years ago. cue happy tears
She asked me to photograph her wedding to her long time beau, Lew and I said YES YES A THOUSAND TIMES YES.
Now, onto the extra good part.
As a travelling, and international wedding photographer, I am no stranger to a long drive, and by me, I mean my husband, who was also invited and just by marrying me, signed up to be chauffeur to my photography work. He’s the real MVP.
We hopped in the car from Cardiff to Cambridge on what turned out to be the hottest day of the year, and the hottest town, on the hottest day of the year… Safe to say it would be a missed opportunity to not be sponsored by AKT deodorant at this point.
I saw this pocket of light and KNEW deep in my jellies that it would go completely missed if I didn’t make the most of it. So, while Laura was getting her makeup and hair done (and looking absolutely stunning), I set up her shoes and beautiful flowers and got to work. I know I’m a self professed dark and moody kinda gal but oh man, how I love these!
By the time my gorgeous bestie was ready, the sun had moved into the most perfect position for some bridal portraits, which are some of my favourites to do!

Shoes and garter on, and now for the best ones. They still make my heart jump for joy.
Laura was READY, GLORIOUS AND SHOWSTOPPINGLY STUNNING. Doesn’t she look like she deserves to be on a stamp?
ROY-AL-TY.
I am so forever grateful to Laura and all my wonderful clients who trust in my vision and will wait an extra 3 minutes to marry the love of their lives. Absolute heroes.
